‘To the Edge of Space’ ECIS Mission Patch Launch for 2009 Now Open

Teachers from around the globe are invited to join the 2009 “To the edge of Space” Mission Patch rocket launch program for 2009. Teachers and their students are invited to design a mission patch describing their vision for how astronomy can help us discover new worlds. Student mission patches will be launched from the famous Woomera rocket range in October 2009. The theme for this launch campaign was chosen to support the UNESCO and the International Year of Astronomy program for 2009. The program is supported by ECIS, ASRI, RMIT University and Space Qualified Details page 2.

Teacher Awarded International Space Medal

Anne Brumfitt has been awarded the 2008 International Astronautics Federation Frank J Malina Medal for excellence in space science education. Anne who joined Space Qualified as a Director four years ago will fly to Glasgow to accept the award in person at the 59th International Astronautics Congress Gala Dinner. Story page 5.

INTERNATIONAL SPACE OLYMPICS

15^th to 27th of October 2009 in Korolev, Russia

What is it like to be a space scientist or engineer? Venturers and Guides are invited to join the Australian team for the 2009 International Space Olympics. The International Space Olympics is an exciting opportunity for you to put your brains against the brightest, highly motivated young Scientists and Engineers of the future for young people aged from 14 to 18. The events are: mathematics, physics, space literature, computer programming and a space project. The competition will be judged by cosmonauts, space scientists and engineers. The team as well as the events will explore Moscow and will visit key Russian space sites such as the cosmonaut training centre “Star City”. Cost approx $5,000 subsidies are available from most state branches.
